My 3 month old craves attention?

he constantly wants someone to be talking to him. we cant leave the room for 1 second and he starts crying. i' ve tried lots of different things and the only one thats working at the moment is leaving the hoover on. has anyone else had this problem and when will he grow out of it. he has a baby gym but is not interested etc
