Is it time to invest in America?

There are obstacles in the path of what you suggest. Not the least of which is the desire of American consumers to pay the least amount possible for goods and service. We cannot compete today in the global marketplace properly because we have placed an advantage on developing nations which placed burdens on American industry. Favorable trade and tariff laws have produce disparities. It is now cheaper to manufacture good overseas for sale to home based consumers and companies are availing themselves of these disparities to maximize the profit margin. Just because you buy from American companies does not guarantee that you are buying products produced wholly by American workers. In short, policy like NAFTA is at the heart of the issue. The government is not looking to limit this type of policy, but rather to expand it. This will continue to be a detriment to American labor and prosperity if the trend continues. We may indeed live in a global marketplace, but the playing field is by no means level and just buying products which claim to be American made may not produce the effects you perceive. I do agree though that we should be investing in our future rather than those of places like Mexico and China.
