Why do people spell 'aloud' instead of 'allowed'?

People don't know when to use certain words in certain grammatical contexts, so they basically don't know the difference between 'aloud' and 'allowed'. It's exactly the same when people use the wrong "their, there or they're"... people don't know what one to use so they use either spelling. It's down to a lack of grammatical knowledge.
