You could start by looking at the power relationships between the characters. You could write a whole essay on the relationship between the two men and Pearl (the final acknowledgment she gets, what we hear about her life afterward compared to how she acted before the acknowledgment). You could also find some interesting play between Chillingsworth and Dimmesdale, with reference to the couple scenes in between when they are alone together. There's the violence between them, but also some imagery. Essays are for playing, so just start brainstorming and see what kinds of things pop out.
