A thesis for the explanation of the spreading of religion?

All true: Religion is supposed to offer us answers and comfort us. You'd be suprised how quick ppl will give up all their rights and freedom and rational thinking if someone will make their life better. This is why I fear theocracies. But I do believe in God. It is my own personal belief and it personally makes ME feel better in this world.
